Innovative IPv6 Training Lab

LACNIC installs special equipment in Montevideo to train technicians around the region on the new Internet protocol.

In another effort to expand the use of the new Internet protocol within the region, LACNIC has installed in its office an IPv6 training lab within the framework of the 6DEPLOY-2 project, with equipment donated by Cisco Systems as part of the cooperation agreements of the project, sponsored by the European Commission.

New IPv6 Book "IPv6 for All"

ISOC Argentina, in cooperation with the 6DEPLOY project, has released a new IPv6 Book "IPv6 for All: A Guide for IPv6 Usage and Application in Different Environments".

It is targeted to different types of readers, including end users, SOHO, enterprise, education and research networks, and ISPs. It also includes a section on how to deploy several IPv6 services.

IPv6 Deployment in European Public Authorities

Hungary Opens First IPv6 Education Lab at Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Using Cisco Technology

Cisco and the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) announced the first laboratory for training and research in the new Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) in Hungary.

Located at the Department of Telecommunications at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, the lab is an integral part of an international network of IPv6 training and research facilities and is connected to some 20 similar centers around the globe. Cisco donated the lab’s networking and communications equipment.

6DEPLOY and the Spanish Government announce free IPv6 trainings across the country

Next 13th September, a series of 20 theoretical and hands-on IPv6 training sessions (in Spanish only) will start in Madrid, as part of the Spanish Government transition plan to the new Internet Protocol, signed by the Council of Ministers last 29th April.

This will be followed by sessions in Barcelona, Valencia, León, Zaragoza, Santander, Bilbao, Logroño, Pamplona, Mérida, Ceuta, Murcia, Seville, Málaga, Las Palmas, Toledo, Palma de Mallorca, Santiago de Compostela and Oviedo.

Spanish Ministry of the Presidency Order PRE/1761/2011, regarding IPv6

Publication of the Spanish Council of Ministers Agreement of 29th of April 2011, which approves the Development Plan form the Deployment of the IPv6 Protocol in Spain.

A short interview video about IPv6 has also been produced as part of this plan.

Spanish Government approves National IPv6 Transition Plan

On Friday 29th April 2011, the Spanish Council of Ministers has approved the Master Plan for the National transition to IPv6, with the cooperation of all the public administrations.

The Plan includes 10 points covering all the aspects required for the public administrations to tackle the IPv4 exhaustion problem with a firm commitment for the deployment of IPv6, including eGovernment services, and the cooperation with private organisations in order to make sure that IPv6 is deployed in every network in the country.

In the next months a free training program will be provided in the 20 major Spanish cities.

Cisco and the Georgian Research and Educational Networking Association (GRENA) today announced the opening of the first laboratory for training and research in Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) in the Caucasus region. Cisco donated the lab's networking and communications equipment.

6DEPLOY release E-Learning packages

6DEPLOY has released an IPv6 E-Learning package. It is a complete IPv6 course with English speech. A version with subtitles in Portuguese is also available.

There is also a short "5 minutes" introduction to IPv6 "What is IPv6?", available only in English.

Collaboration, training mark AfricaNIC conference

The Africa Network Information Center's 9th Open Policy Meeting (AfriNIC-9), held last week in Mauritius, saw the launch of international collaboration and IT training initiatives to benefit African techies.

Presenting research at the meeting, Japanese and South Korean professors announced a joint online collaboration and exchange program on Internet research between African and Asian technology experts.

Kenya Hosts EU/AfriNIC Training on IPv6

More than 100 technical experts from English-speaking countries in Africa have gathered in Nairobi for IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) training. The training is geared toward improving the capacity of IT managers in Africa in deployment of IPv6 networks.

Kenya will embark on a plan to deploy IPv6 mainly through the national Network Operations Center (NOC) that is currently being setup, said Information and Communication Minister Samuel Poghisio in his keynote address. He added that NOC will support ongoing initiatives to encourage IPv6 deployment.
